This unit uses focused sunlight to boil water so the steam can be condensed into drinking water. The steam leaves the salt and impurities behind. This system will produce drinking water from ocean water.
In order to boil large quantities of water a lot of energy must be absorbed by to water at 100c. This system requires insulation of the receiver tube to be effective. As with the units that follow, a glass tube with stale air or vacuum insulation greatly increases the usefulness of these units.
A steam hood collects the steam and directs it through the condenser. Water or air is used to cool the steam so it condenses back to water. This water can then be used for drinking. This process requires much more energy than pasteurization.
